George Hardie is an English illustrator and designer best known for his work for Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, designing the iconic Dark Side of the Moon album cover in 1973 for design agency Hipgnosis

George also worked at the University of Brighton where is was a Professor (now retired since 2014 and awarded Emeritus Professor) running the Master’s Level Sequential Illustration course. George was a Professor of Illustration at the University of Brighton retiring in 2014.

While at the University, George started the publication with the support of the then Centre for Research Development. This is where designer Gavin Ambrose first met George, and following George’s retirement, colleagues within the University would often bring items to Gavin to pass onto George.

Those of you that know George will know he is an avid collector (some may say hoarder) and many of the items that were found included parts of a book. This led to the collaboration to finish and publish the book.
